Dr. Knight works in the development of water policy, disaster resilience and flood risk management initiatives at the University of Maryland, and has decades of government experience in policy administration and technology with FEMA, NOAA, and USACE. As the President and founder of WaterWonks LLC she applies her experience in federal disaster reduction, flood risk management and marine transportation policies and programs to a range of projects. She has a PhD from the University of Memphis, MS from Mississippi State University and a BS from Memphis State University, all in Civil Engineering. She is a registered professional engineer in Tennessee, a Diplomate Water Resource Engineer and a Diplomate Navigation Engineering. She is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Meteorological Society, the Society of Women Engineers, Sigma Xi and a Fellow for PIANC.

 

Laurens van der Tak, PE, D.WRE  (Presentation)

Mr. van der Tak has more than 25 years of experience in helping public and private clients to address stormwater and water resource issues. His areas of expertise include climate change adaptation studies; stormwater utilities analysis; and the modeling of various water quality, hydrologic, and hydraulic processes. In the area of water resources management he has developed comprehensive watershed assessments and used this information to help formulate effective stormwater management plans and strategies.He has a BA in biology and a BS in agricultural engineering from Cornell University, an MS in agricultural engineering from the University of California at Davis, and a Civil Engineer Degree from MIT. He is a member of AWWA, WEF, AWRA and IWA and is the past Chair of AWWA’s Climate Change Committee.
